Assoc Prof Dr Margaret McGill
Associate Professor McGill is the Associate Director of the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Diabetes Centre. She has more than 40 years’ experience in the management of both children and adults with diabetes and has led the RPA diabetes team for 36 years. Underpinning much of this clinical work has been a strong dedication to the value of and an advocate for patient-related research. She has held the position of Associate Professor with the University of Sydney since 2011, Faculty of Medicine and Health. Together with Professor Stephen Twigg she developed the Diabetes Service for the Aboriginal Medical Service, Maari Ma, Far West of NSW. Marg has a very broad range of experience in developing innovative clinical services for diabetes and medical and health professional education and is recognised as a global leader in these areas.Marg was Senior Vice President of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) from 2003 - 2009. She was Chair of the IDF Consultative Section on Diabetes Education (DECS) for 9 years and developed its global education strategy during this time. Among many current volunteer appointments for diabetes, she is on the recently formed Health Professional Advisory Council to Diabetes Australia.She led the successful applications for the RPAH Diabetes Centre to become an International Diabetes Federation Centre of Excellence in Education for health professionals and an NADC Centre of Excellence. She was named in the 2011 Australia Day Honours List with the award of Order of Australia (AM) for her contribution to diabetes nationally and overseas.
