Dr Devamalar Selvi Naicker A/P Subramaniam Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah, Klang

Dr. Devamalar Selvi Naicker is a consultant Sports Physician and Head of the Sports Medicine Unit, Department of Orthopaedics at Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah, Klang and has served in the Ministry of Health for 24 years. She is also the Head of the Sports Medicine Service in Selangor. Among the services provided in the hospital is the Exercise Prescription Clinic for both paediatric and adult patients with obesity and chronic disease. This was the first such clinic established in the government Hospital under the Ministry of Health. Currently, most hospitals with a Sports Medicine Unit provide this service. She has been invited as a speaker for numerous seminars and conferences at the state, national and regional levels. She also has been invited as a panel speaker for numerous forums organized by the Ministry of Health and other organizations. In addition, she is one of the expert panel for Malaysia’s first comprehensive Diabetes Lifestyle Advocate program ( DLP Programme ). Dr. Devamalar has also been invited as a guest lecturer in a local University. She is a member of many professional organizations and was previously the vice-chairman of the Selangor Branch of Diabetes Malaysia from 2013-2017. She is also a member of the Academy of Medicine Malaysia and a member of various service and educational committees and subcommittees. Her areas of interest include exercise prescription in obesity and chronic disease, health promotion, and awareness among healthcare professionals and the public in general and has contributed numerous articles to health magazines specifically targeting people with diabetes. She is also a taskforce member for the 3 rd edition of the Diabetes Education Manual. Her other interest includes pain management in chronic musculoskeletal injuries.
